95 tranny issue

95 tranny issue
95 xj 4.0HO tranny prob 208xxxxxxxx mi
wont shift from 3 into fourth then od until 65 then i can idle it down to 55... if i give it throttle back to third and pull 2-3000 R's to keep 55
i had it good until i started racing people
if i reset the eng comp will it accomplish anything?
just changed the tranny filter, good fluid smells as if it came out the bottle
i gave it hard throttle cold (35-40f) and something clunked and i had od and smooth shifts again only for about a week
