im new to jeeps and i just bought a 92 xj but it has an overheating problem, i noticed it was low on coolant so i filled it up and bleed the system but it still creeps up and gets hot. i dont want to mess it up. when its hot the fan clutch still spins very free.. im suspecting the clutch has gone out and its not engaging anymore. this is just a trail rig i was wondering if i could just eliminate the clutch and do direct drive fan. thanks

You don't want to eliminate the clutch. Just pick up a new one and be happy. Many people upgrade to a fan clutch out of a ZJ. It is a bigger clutch and will pull more air. You can do a search on this subject. There was just a thread on it a day or two ago.
Sounds like you need a cooling system overhaul though. While you're touching one component (the fan clutch), might as well replace some other pieces of the cooling system: thermostat, water pump, radiator, hoses, radiator cap and some new coolant. If you do all these components at the same time, you'll have reassurance that you won't be overheating and you'll only have to drain/refill the coolant once.
Also, verify that your e-fan kicks on when it is supposed to.
