9" Floater
Here is something I've been wanting to get for a while. It's basically a circle track piece but can handle abuse. It's a floater 9" rear diff. My theory is being a floater, the axle takes none of the vehicles weight just transfers power. If you happen to break a axle, you fish the broken one out and the rig still rolls. If you break a axle on a non floater, there is no support on the axle and if it's a c-clip, it will slide out.

Price is good for a complete diff minus the center, even has brake discs ready to go.

I say for $650 you'd still need a third member assy, you could be over $1k with only a spool or open diff. If you want something exotic still, I think you could build or buy a 609 (dana 60 & 9" hybrid) or simply a dana 60. Heck a full floater dana 60 rear with disc brakes can be had for a couple hundred bucks or less. Even if you had it shaved you'd still be cheaper.

A full floater 9" is just as strong as a 31 spline d60. In fact the extra pinion bearing might even make the 9" stronger. add a truss to the 9" and it is hard to beat, and you can shave it as well.
I am not sure if that is the best way to do a full floater 9". The ones I have seen (currie, spidertrax, diamond) all use a bolt on spindle from a d44, d60 or use a weld in 14b/d70 spindle. THis also gives you the ability to pick your bolt pattern. 5x5.5 ford d44, 6 x 5.5 chevy, 8 x 6.5 chevy/ford.
To me the dream 9" full floater would be one with a HI9 center section making it a HP be 35 spline inside and out. It would also have drive flanges. Just so you know this is a popular axle among the KOH AND WEROC series competitors

I'm still in think stage with this but don't want a 60/14 bolt mainly for weight and I'm not going to run that big of tire, 33/35. Instead of upgrading a couple times, it's money ahead to just do this and be done. Bolt patterns I'll sort out later. For the most part, this will be a driver that will see the trails and dunes.

I have seen these floaters with spools behind 800 HP SBC turning 8000 rpms for 20 mins straight and not break.... I run one in my dirt stock car and love it
