89 yj slip yoke fit a 94 xj?
I hope this is in the correct place but i have been reading through numerous posts on sye's but the forum search and google have failed me I am trying to find out if a sye that was bought to fit a 1989 yj with a np231 fit my 94 xj with a np231j t-case. I have looked on jeep 4x4 center and found conflicting items in there catalog. I found this that states it fits yj's and xj's within the years i was searching for (http://www.jeep4x4center.com/slip-yo...-sj-rr231.html) but this sye states it only fits yj's (http://www.jeep4x4center.com/alloy-u...all-11400.html). can someone with more knowledge on this help clear it up for me? I found a really good deal on craigslist and would rather not pass it up if it fits. Also the seller doesn't remember where it was bought or the part number for me to look it up. Any help at all will be great

@krawler is that a good or bad thing or it doesnt make any differance? i installed one for my ol 93 xj with the 231 case and it didnt have needle bearings. I did find out more info on the yj it was bought for, it was a 1989 with a 4.2L and a 5 speed but he wasnt sure which transmission his had ad from what i've researched and read was they swapped transmissions half way through that year it started production with the ba-10 and ended with the ax-15's. would that matter at all? just trying to get as much info as i can before i pull the trigger on the deal cause i could use the money on other things for the xj haha

You can use it.. there are no needle bearings in it.. it's a slip yoke. It also uses the same 1310 ujoints the XJ/ZJ and YJ's use.
This is what the vendors sell as a high angle slip yoke, you'll get a few more degrees in ujoint operating angle and less binding if your not running an SYE.

Sorry for the newbish question but can you elaborate more on this. it kind of confuses me. I thought with a slip yoke eliminator you can get more usable degrees out of the u joints with the sye? or is what im looking at buying not a sye at all? sorry just confused now

Oops.. missed that your asking about an SYE.
I was thinking YJ "slip yoke"..
I do think that you'll be ok considering both the YJ and a 94 XJ have an internal slip yoke style transfer, there is probably a later SYE/mainshaft for a 95+ 231? 242 SYE's are broken down in this way.

Some of the older xj 231's had needle bearings on the output shaft, they come right off and get put back on your new shaft.

Well looked at the sye today. Turns out it is the Rubicon express re1801 HnT kit. Not worth the 125 when for 30 more I can order a full sye kit off of ebay and not have to cut nor tap anything. Oh well though thanks again to everyone.
