'89 transfer case swap into 2000 xj... Whats needed?
I acquired an np231 transfer case out of what I believe is a 1989 xj. The parts were bought by a guy who was going to build an xj and then opted not to, so I am getting them third hand.
It came as a package with a rough country long arm kit and cv driveshaft. $550!
I have read up and understand I probably need to change the input shaft to a 23 spline and plug the vacuum lines.
The transfer case was rebuilt and has less than 5000 miles on it and has a sye installed. It was a great deal, in my humble opinion. That's why I'm happy to work for the swap.
Am I missing anything or do I just need to check the input shaft. I have already emailed Novak as well. I contacted rough country for a fresh hardware kit.
Thanks!
I'll get this done, an axle change (front), and a regear and I should be set. If it matters, I am likely going to 4.88 gearing.

It looks like the speedo gear is different, too... Do I swap the electric and replace the cable, driven? Funky options for the long speedo gears...

Not trying to spam, I promise...
I really would like to install the transfer case, as he beefed it up, rebuilt it, and installed sye..
Still looking to see if I can just put that sye in my transfer case.. The output housing is different and the speedo gear is mechanical, so I'm guessing I could just buy a new sye, worst case... Still weeding through all the info

You are going to have to tear it all down to swap the input shaft. I pulled a 231 from a ZJ and even though it was 23 spline there are different lenght shafts as well. The output housing can swap over along with the rest of the sye kit to your jate model transfercase as far as i know. There is some more info on jbconversions website.
