Default 8.8 swap question.

Hello. I have a 1991 cherokee with abs is there anything special I need in order to swap to an 8.8 for the brakes to work. Grabbing a 3.55 axle from an 98 exploror that had ABS itself.
Thanks

You're gonna lose the ABS if you swap in the 8.8. Sensors and signals are all different.

You will lose abs forever because ford and jeep use different systems,But your brakes will work fine with out abs.To me abs is a nanny system for people that can't drive,I have seen times in snow and hard rain people went sliding through a redlight because they was driving to fast and thought the abs would stop them in time.

Perhaps a better swap would be a Chy 8.25 swap over the 8.8. For one a direct bolt-in, better clearance and hubs, axles the same if you use a 97-01 you will gain the stronger 29 spline axles to boot. This axle is very easy to swap a set of disc brakes to also.

IMHO loss of ABS a good thing.

Oh yea I won't mind loosing my Abs system just wanted to be sure brakes will operate without it. As for the 8.25 Will it be suffice enough to support 35a?

The 8.25 is more than enough for 35s. You can even get chromoly shafts if you want. The 8.8 isn't all that much stronger than the 8.25 its kinda like the Dana 44. People claim its the king of axles yet almost the same strength as an 8.25. yes it doesn't have c clips but with discs I don't really care. I think the 8.8 is mainly an upgrade from the tj guys with Dana 35s and has sense been picked up because it is popular.
