8.8 swap with disc brakes!

Just found out my dad has an explorer rusting away on the back of his place only question I have is how to hook up the new brakes(I'm sure this is a no brainer for you guys but I've never done it so all I can do is ask right!) http://www.ironrockoffroad.com/Merch...&Category_Code
Getting that for the swap!

regular brakes you grab two pass side flex lines from explores and then make your own hard lines and use your factory distribution block.

her is mine, if you can see the lines, I welded a bolt on top of the truss for the distro block
Attachment 346865

and if you look close in this pic you can see the lines, run the hard lines across the top of the truss than dropped down to connect to flex lines at the u bolts
Attachment 346866

e brake, you either use ZJ cables, custom cables, or stock cables folded over the leaver with a cable clamp holding them on

heres how i did my e brake

Sweet man! THANX!

The swap kit serious off road sells is a better bet . I am using that one soon my d35 is about to gernade.

I have the iron rock kit it looks cool thats about it. Its more expensive then most and its incomplete

Unless you plan to link the rear or are building for jeep speed there really is no need for the rear truss. The ruffstuff kit will be all you need outside of brake hose/lines.

The setup serious sells is the most complete kit . The price is right too.

sometimes people want to over build stuff so it wont break. I know people who truss axles for rigs that don't go fast, including myself. especially on an axle like the 8.8 where the tubes are not plug welded from the factory

with that being said sometimes looks matter haha.

to the OP make sure you weld the axle tubes to the housing with whatever kit you get, these axles are not hard to spin.

Aljay 03-24-2013 07:42 PM

Its funny people rave about how 8.8s are just so easy to spin tubes in.
My little 5.0 coupe with a healthy 302 based motor with a huge converter and a trans brake and slicks never had an issue. Tore up the torque boxes but never spun the pumpkin, But yeah I would go ahead and er on the side of caution and weld it up. I am gathering parts to do this swap and I will drag out the welding gear and put three equally spaced inch long tacks on mine .

I watched a mildly built YJ with a bone stock 4.2L spin the tubes on an 8.8.

I never let an 8.8 leave my possession without welding the tubes to the diff. housing.

Only thing I can see is my coupe was light ! Under 3000.

The_ocho 03-25-2013 09:12 AM

I'm sorry but I'm not trying to impress the kids at the mall. Was trying to save the OP some money.

I too always weld the tubes to the housing.
