Default 8.8 questions

hey guys,
I recently got an 8.8 from a jy guy ive been going to for a good year or so, and lucky me its got the 31 spline 373 gears w/ limited slip (its not a locker i know, but hey, it helps right?)

anyways, its in pretty decent shape, im about to open up the diff and look at the gears and make sure they are ok, so if they are, my quesiton is-

what benefits and consequences come out of using a c clip eliminator?

for one thing, im not really sure where the c clip resides in the axle, and i understand its supposed to retain the shaft from coming out, but where is it and how does the eliminator replace it? ive read on some other forums that the eliminators dont like alot of sideways forces, but ive also read of them being perfectly fine...but ive also never heard anyone talk about thier c clip failing.

input is appreciated, and happy friday

personally, in a non steering axle... I think I'd prefer the c-clips. I'd rather not have a shaft come out on me while I'm up on a rock.

I think you've got it backwards. you want those cclips gone. with the super 88 kit the axle shaft is now connected to the end of the axle. you can google search a write up search a write up

I run an 88 with chromos and cclip on 33's. it's held up better than anything else on my whole jeep. no problems with it. but the peace of mind of a super 88 would be nice. I'd say the kit is completely worth it if you wheel hard on 35's

What he said^^^^PLUS don't buy the moser or strange kits...they are not strong enough for the side loads that the axle sees when wheelin. The super 88 kit is schweet.

oh, and the rear discs help keep the shaft in if you break anyways...
