8.25 swap... driveshaft question
Ok so I've read up on how to do the d30 to c8.25 swap. I have everything I need so far...
1998 xj C8.25 with matching 3.55 gears
New U bolts
spring plates
Brakes.
Only thing I'm missing right now is the driveshaft. Now I have a 2000 xj automatic with the np242 and a 4" lift. I'm not running an SYE yet but its on my list. I was wondering what drivshaft I need to go with that will work for both the swap and it being lifted. Will the ds for the c8.25 still work or do I need something else.
A friend of mine said he wasn't sure but he thought he read something about using one out of a zj. Is this accurate?
Any help is great. Thanks in advance!
Oh one last thing. My buddy lifted his xj 4" and needed an sye right away along with a tcase drop. His came factory with the chrysler rear and np231. When I did my lift I did the tcase drop but didn't needed the sye. Will doing this swap change me needing one right away?

This should work just fine for your needs. I have it on my xj, and I love it.

Only swapping the rear out but I was told having/not having a sye makes a difference. Idk how but that's why I'm asking. Just double checking before I go and find out the hard way ya know

BTW, I have almost the exact same setup as you do. The only difference is that I have a 4.5 in lift. If you want to leave your tc drop on everything should just bolt right back up.

do you have the ds with the sye from the link you sent me?
i was really looking into getting that but wasnt sure if in the mean time i could use the c8.25 with just a matching ds if i could find one cheap just to get around on since its my dailly and if i order the ds with the sye it would take a few to get in.
also is that kit everything i need? i was looking at getting the sye and d for 200 plus the tap set and all (another 20 bucks)
anything else i might need?
thanks for all the help. i'm looking to possiblly do the swap on sunday after quadratec on saturday... maybe find a locker cheap there

Yea I was thinking about doing one. The only thing is I want to know everything before I dig into it so it works properly and the write up is correct. Hopefully soon it will be completely installed. I'll keep you posted tho

From what I've searched it looks like the 8.25 and 44 bolt right up if out of another cherokee but my question is the driveshaft. What I'm going to try is a front ds and a yoke off of another ds that matches my spline (I think 27) and make myself a hack and tap sye. If it works then great if not then its back to the drawing board.
As of right now the rear is rust free and painted. Tomorrow I'm going to the junk yard in search of a ds and/or yoke. Craigslist might have some hope for me too

Went to the junkyard and picked up a front driveshaft out of an XJ and the proportioning valve out of a ZJ. while doing the d35 to c8.25 swap I'll also be converting the brakes to disc's so all that will be included in the final write up. The link for that I posted above and that is what I plan to follow.
