8.25 locker in dana 30

Ok so this might sound stupid but is it possible? I just swapped my 27 spline 8.25 in favor of an explorer 8.8. I had a lock rite in the 8.25 and seeing as the 30 is also a 27 spline could it work? If not I'm sure I can sell the locker but figured it was worth asking

Highly doubtful, the sheer size of the 8.25 dwarfs the d30.

silver95 Apr 29, 2013 03:39 PM

True. But I have heard of people putting lockers from a 35 in a 30

There is a thread on here somewhere. Some kid put a d35 locker in a d30 or something to that effect.

Wow lol

You would be another first.

D35 Locker will work in a D30. Speaking in Lock Right sizes. The D-35 lock right and D-30 Lock right have all of the same dimensions on every aspect. The only reason there is a different part number is the notch for the C-clip.

On the 8.25 locker working in the D30 is hard to say. I think the size of the 8.25 locker would make it too big for the carrier. As far as side gears fitting on axel I would say yes it will work. As I have personally put a D35 locker (which is exact same size as d-30) in my 8.25 rear though.

Here is what the D35 Lock Right looks like in the C8.25. It has been there working for over a year.

Try it only way to know for sure. If it don't work I can trade you my D35 Lock right for your 8.25 locker lol.

So I can get a D30 Aussie locker and put it in my 8.25 if i read that right. So much cheaper then buying the 8.25 Aussie locker.

No. The D30 locker isn't designed for c-clips so it would not work the other way around.

I also can not speak for Aussie lockers at all. I have never used an Aussie. I used a Powertrax Lock-Right for the D35 in my C8.25.

I am not saying that It is gaurenteed to work or would hold up for everyone. I am just saying what I have done and how it held up.

There is more to it than just putting it in there. I had dumb luck that I actually tried it and that it worked.

I bought a D35 locker used and at the time thought I had a D35 in my jeep.

I done my install and used my 8.25 cross shaft. I also had to grind down a little bit of the outside of the c-clips for them to fit in the crush sleeve's
I done all of that still thinking it was a D-35. I did not realize I had an C8.25 until a few weeks later. It could be just dumb luck and could require all of those specific actions to work.

As far as a D35 locker working in a D30 that is direct swap. D-30 locker will not work in either 8.25 or D35 as the D30 locker was not designed to allow c-clips

DougyFresh Apr 29, 2013 06:00 PM

safe to assume that the whole 35 carrier will not work in a 30?

D35 Spider Gears will work in a D30 but not the other way around. Carrier its self would not work.

I am not trying to argue or anything but how hard do you wheel your rig? I ask because I have a used 35 lock right and would like to install it if it works under hard wheeling. Thanks

Both videos are before the locker but, I have been no easier on it ever since.

I wheel way to hard. I have sheared the motor mount brackets off of the block. I have to shredded swampers. I have the heaviest foot out of our entire club. Those videos are how I approach things.
