78-79 ford D44
So i inherited a d44/d60 set from a 79 F250. The front d44 has that cast Cs and the cast spring mount on the driver side of the diff. I know someone on here has built with these, but i have yet to find a build thread for them. can someone help me out here? Im curious as to my options for using this under my XJ.

well here is mine. I cut the radius arms and welded tubing to them, threw heims at the ends and bolted her up. Not that simple tho. I have like 112 hours into the swap lol.

Like said above... very popular... search the swap on pirate... split dom and run it down the middle of the OEM radius arm that's cut about in half... others BIG option is to cut the cast out and shorten the axle to stock width lol...

I've got the cast C D44 under mine too. Jbetit got it right; just add on to the radius arms and build you a cross member. You will have to modify the coil spring on the top of the radius arms to make them line up with the upper coil mounts on the XJ. Look at turquoise medallion write up. If you dont want to make them, google some of the Bronco websites and they have several options ( like James Duff, etc) for longer radius arms. Not a lot of trouble if you have a grinder and a welder and some time. If I can help you out just PM me Good luck!

i'm sure he didn't mean cast radius arm bulges. being that he said it has the cast spring perch on the drivers side to me means they came from a leaf sprung vehicle. so that and the d60 would tell me he has a d44 and d60 from a 250.
i have seen others weld up a coil bucket mount above the leaf perch on the drivers side (and of course a bucket on the passenger side) but we all know the drivers side has very little room between the pumpkin and knuckle.
i wish these were the axles i bought when i turned them down and opted for the d44/9 inch from a 78 bronco.
and if he has the d44HD, it would have 1/2 inch tubes and i think are a half inch wider on each side than a reg d44 from an f150.
cheers

I've never seen or heard of a cast on spring perch on these axles... all were weld on as far as I know... I had a 79 Fully built f250 front Dana 44 and it was weld perches... I know this cause they were gone and replaced with buckets... not saying there were none with cast spring perches... but I've read the "Bible" on these which never stated that plus I've never seen one or owned one...

The f250 dana 44's did have a cast leaf spring perch on the drivers side of it.If it does not it was either cut off and ground so you can't tell it was there or it wasn't out of a 79 f250.
I think he's talking the outer C's of the axle not the cast radius arm mounts that are on the half ton 44's.
I'll be doing this swap but with a GM14 bolt and I'll be buliding new mounts for the control arms but I think theres a place that makes a truss for helping do this swap if going with stock style suspension.
