I have a 2001 XJ, and though my rear speakers (mounted in ceiling near back hatch) were only 5 1/4", I put 6 1/2" speakers in without any issue. The existing hole will easily fit without any cutting, you'll just have to drill new holes for the mounting screws. I even got my factory speaker grill to pop right back on, right over the new 6 1/2's.

the rear ones will fit, but if your putting new ones in the fronts doors you'll need to have the right size and they are a pain in the ****!
