4wheel drive noise
 

I have a 6" lift and when I lock it in 4 wheel and put strain on it (ie pulling something) right before tire slip it makes a nasty grinding noise right under neath me. I had one of my friends look while it made the noise and he said the driveshaft is hitting the yoke (the part that goes into the t case) any idea on how to lessen the angle? I already have a 2" t case drop

Take off the drop and put on an sye. That's the way to fix it.

Easy install for the sye?

And do I need a new front shaft?

I'm confused... Isn't the front not a slip yoke already?

Can you take some pictures of the front drive line? It sounds like the angles are off.

He has a 2" tcase drop, that drop will push the front output upwards increasing the angle the front DC sees ... Result = yoke contact.

Ds would be hitting when driving in 2wd also seeing how you cannot unlock front axle. Look deeper into noise.

Op im gonna be honest. Lifting an xj 6" takes a lot of work, and money. Not only is it bad for the components in the driveline to do things one at a time, but it is extremely dangerous for yourself and others on the road for you to be driving a half complete rig. Granted I dont know what specific components your jeep has, or how far along in the build you are, but the three threads you've posted and your responses to the advice you have been given makes me believe that you aren't as informed on the subject as you should be for what you are trying to do. I implore you to reconsider your position, take the time to research what is required, and do what needs to be done to make your rig as sturdy and capable as it can be.

I dont mean to give you the impression that you should not lift your jeep 6", or do anything to steer you from your goal, I just want you to realize that your education into lifting xj's will not only save you time, money, and anguish, but possibly the lives of people around you. I encourage you to use this forum, theres tons of great information on here, a lot of it has been covered in threads that have already been posted, all you need to do is search.

And to stay on the topic of this thread, it's your driveshaft angle. You need an sye and double cardan shaft in the rear, or you are going to break something.
