i told him to just sale it and get a car but he says that he likes the jeep he just wants a 2wd. it seems like a waste of a perfectly good jeep to me too. he just wanted to know what all he could remove and make sure nothing was going to leak if he removed some stuff.

From what I've read pulling the front shaft is a pretty marginal improvement at best.
What is his mpg? Does he even know? I mean, there's a lot of improvements that can be made to help mileage, tune up cai, exhaust, injecctors, etc.
If mileage is a concern, he might as well get a small 4 banger car. An XJ ain't no prius.
Also, driving habbits have a lot to do with mileage. Maybe he's got a heavy foot?

To swap to 2wd you'll need to:
Swap in a Stock 2wd beam in place of the Dana 30 axle.
Remove drive Shaft.
Remove T-case.
Remove 4wd transmission
Install 2wd transmission
Install 2wd shaft
Swap shifter trim to stupid little cubby pocket.
IMO, this is the dumbest thing I've read all day.
They make 2wd Cherokee's every day.
Your "friend" isn't going to get any better mileage than he did with 4wd equipment.
If you want to accomplish the same thing you can spend 900 bucks and buy manual locking hubs to go on the front.

Better yet, since this person clearly has more $ than sense, he should give his Jeep to me and I'll give him my 2WD Ranger with a V-8 in it.
