Best bet here is to take it to a pro. This is NOT a job to do from some online guide. Also if you do mostly highway driving and are tight one $ then a gear swap might not be for you. You may want to look into replacing the axles you have now with ones that came factory with 4:10's which will praduce better mpg's and yet is still a nice fit for 33's.

You will need a new carrier, a complete install kit which includes bearings, shims, etc. You will need some special tools, like a dial indicator. Most pros use a set of mock up bearings. It's not that hard, but it is precision and has to be done right or it will damage the gears.
I thought about it, and had friends who had done it, but decided to pay the extra money to make sure it was done right. Maybe the guy will let you watch so you can learn, but I'd definitely have someone do it for you.

i taught myself how to do it when i was 18. never had a failure yet. do some research and see if you are up to it. if you arent really mechanically incilned, dont have patience, cant measure tight tolerances, and dont have the right tools, then save it for a professional. if you mess this up it will cost you a gearset and could cost you your life and others.

I've done quite a bit of modding on my XJ myself, but I wouldn't recommend regearing it unless you have all the right tools and are a very competent mechanic.
In other words, take it to the shop..
