4.88’s with 32’s and an AW4
 
If I swap front and rear axle that have 4.88 gears will I be too low? I want to hear from someone that has ran them if possible ! I can get front and rear diffs with full OTK steering etc for a great price if I can make these work .

it is going to be a little steep I ran 4.88s on my tj a while on 33s it was awesome offroad and on except on the highway with a 32" tire you should be in the 4.10 range if you are looking to be stockish

It won't be unusable, and it'll accelerate damn well, but it's not like you're going to win any top speed races anyhow with 32s.

I'd run it for the inevitable change to larger tires that will happen after running 32s

I've got 4.88 an 35" tires and doing 70 the RPMs are to high. I don't remember what they are (I've only done it once) but it was loud.

I was told 2700 rpm at 70mph with 32s and 4.88 that doesn’t sound bad I don’t NEED to go faster than 70 anyways no one does . 1,000 dollars buys d30 with chromoly axles solid diff cover and 4.88s and 8.25 rear with diff cover and 4.88s and it comes with matching speedo gear for transfer case and full OTK steering setup all heim appears to be Ironman fab .

That is quite good, in the end doing the gears alone would cost that much.

When you do the math it comes out at just under 2700 rpm at 70 mph, if your tires are a true 32" tire. If you have an auto, drive it down the highway in 3rd and that will be about what your rpms would be in overdrive after you do the gear swap, and if you figure a 4500 rpm redline your top speed will still be over 110 mph, I doubt you will want to go that fast though.

Do it GreaseMonkey! Get those gears! If you wheel it and have the desire for bigger tires down the road, you wont regret it.

Even though it's a good deal. If it doesn't fit your plans for your jeep then I'd pass. Maybe even pass this deal onto someone else who is looking to build this way. You never said what type of traction devices it has. Locked or open diffs. This could be a game changer or a deal breaker.

Open diffs but does have chromoly axles In front

Chromoly axles don't make this a deal. So lets just say you have a D30 and 8.25 with open diffs already. It would cost you (ballpark) $700 for gears and $500 to have your gears set up. Then add new seals for $100. You just spent $1300 to get the gear ratio of your choice and replaced all the seals. Probably could do it for a little less if you shopped around. Good luck

I did the math and with 32 inch tires, 4.88 gears and an automatic transmission at 70mph I came up with 2930rpm.

70x366x4.88x.75÷32=2930.28
