d30 fronts and either d35 or c8.25. Honestly i wouldnt waste money regearing a d35. It's junk for a rear end. It would be worth it to at least swap in a 29 spline c.8.25 first

I think you meant to ask if they had 3.55's not 35's stock?
If so yes, most had 3.55's unless they had a tow package. Some came with 3.73's and some 4 cyl's came with 4.10's depending on years. I'm not sure if you can gear that low in a D35. Not really sure why you'd want to either. The axle is weak. You should look to upgrade it to atleast a 8.25 and go from there. You have the D30 front axle and anything 3.73 and up you need to get another carrier for it as well. you can gear up with the same carrier in the 8.25 as far as I know.

My FIL just got estimates on gearing for the D30 and 8.25 with 456's. High end gears like Yukon estimated about $1200 for parts only. It's almost 1/2 that for the lower ends gears.

It really depends on how/where you wheel. A lot of people on here run 4.56 on the d35 without any problems. If you have the money you can swap out to a Chrysler 8.25(29 spline) or any other stronger axle ( d44, d60,etc). It really depends on your skills to do the right job and how deep your pockets are.

You would get a 29 spline 8.25 chrysler rear. Look for 1997-2001 XJ's without ABS. Some 1996's had them but not many and the only way to tell how many splines it has is to pull the axle and count the splines.

yeah, the gears are stonger but you still have the same weak axle shafts. Once you build up the insides of the 35 then you have to worry about twisting the housing. It's just not worth the money. You can get an 8.25 pretty much on the cheap end and have an axle you can depend on.

That is probably a low end set of gears which will most likely be noisy but it can be done. Just remember if you do the rear you have to do the front to. Or say goodbye to your transfer case.
