4.10 or 4.56 gears for 33s with a ax15, not a DD
I had decided to go with 4.10 but now that I am about to place the order, I am second guessing myself.
The XJ lives at a weekend house in the SoCal desert and sees dirt roads, some sand, and some rocks.
No snow, no mud.
It is used on roads but it is an hours drive to the nearest interstate. So most on road driving is in the 45-65 mph range on two lane roads. Most trips have at least one off-road leg or I would drive something else.
4.0l, ax15, 33s
I'm starting to think that 4.56 will be a better choice for how I intend to use it but I don't want to be hating life if I do want to go somewhere on the freeway.

Go 410s seeing your ax15 . Going stock 355s from a automatic xj makes a big difference from factory 307s. Assuming your 4.0 powered.

I've got 4.56 w/ 33's and an ax-15.. I think it's optimal. I cruise 20 miles to work going 70mph on the highway, everyday. Rpms at 70 are about 2700.
I would be disappointed had I gone 4.10's.

Did you have speedo recalibrated ? That on the high end in the rpm range for cruising. Not saying it aint correct but around 2300 to 2500 would be more more the normal range. Jm2cw . Im running 38s with 410s but with a nv3550 in about 2500 at 80. with recalibrated speedo.

Like I said that's "about" where they are at. I may be off because I don't stare at the tach when cruising. I'll check on my drive in today and report back :P
Edit: checked on my way into work.. About 2600-2700 @ 70 mph.

If your going to spend the money go 4.56s and dont look back. like you said your not going on the interstate so you dont need the top end.
