I'm always interested in threads about running something larger than a 31 on a 3 inch lift. I have 31s on my XJ right now and it really looks like I could clear something larger like a 32 or 33. 35s would be a little on the large side though. You'd have to trim most of your front fenders away and the rears would need some trimming too.
Spacers would be a good idea, but they put tons of stress on your hubs and lugs. It would be better to run wheels with tons of backspacing like what I have.
Also, with the 35s you'll need to regear to 4.10 or lower.

It can be done! There is a lot of info about this this on naxja also, I was just reading up on a guy that runs 36's and at one point ran 37's on 3" of lift. I am sure someone has the link for it..

i run 35's on 4" of lift, and it looks like it could definitely be done with 3" of lift. Your gonna have to trim the **** out of the front fenders, your rears should work with just the usual cut and fold.
Bump stop it and post some wheeling pics!

You mean less back spacing?

Full width makes it a little easier. It should work ok though. With my measuring on my own jeep I think 3.5-4" is the minimum I would go, but I like a little more up travel.
Work with what you got and make it happen though! You can always add a little lift down the road if need be

I'm running 35s with a 4" lift. I originally trimmed and bumpstopped to fit 33s and need to do a bit more trimming to stop the rubbing. Your gonna have to trim a good bit to get them to clear in the front, the back stuffs pretty good with the normal cut n fold. I'm 16 as well so I feel your pain on not having a whole lot of funding- I'm working 2 jobs and it all goes into the girlfriend or the jeep. What rear axle do you have?
