Im probably not going higher in tires, you would pick 488 over 456?

4.88

You can do a side by side comparison of 2 different gear ratios by using the gear calculator at www.grimmjeeper.com.

I am running the same setup. Hp 30 and 8.8 with 35s i am running 4.88 gears right now and am happy with it. My buddy is running 4.56 gears in his hp 30 and d44. Not much difference. If interested i have a carrier with a minispool setup for the 8.8

4.88s. I've had 4.56s and 35s and wish I had 4.88s.

Do i just buy the conversion gears and they will work or does anything else have to change? My d30 was 3.55 but i regeared to 4.10 so now do i take the old one out or what?

I had the HP 30 and Ford 8.8 in my XJ with 35 MTR's and with 4.88's loved it, ran that set-up for years, I had other Jeepers in my rig that ran 4.56's and were jealous.. Go for the 4.88s you won't regret it. and the highway trips were very smooth actually.

The 8.8 will be fine. They dont have a carrier break but will have to grind the ring gear alittle to get the center pin in and out. The d30 i think u need a diff carrier for anything over 4.56

Thanks. Now do i just buy the 4.10 to 4.88 for the rear and it will work/fit? And with the front being already regeared from 3.55 to 4.10 what do i do with that? Take out the 4.10 and do a 3.55 to 4.88?

I have 3.07's with 225's and I think its undergeared in 1st, CAN'T imagine 35"ers with that gearing.
