35s on stock 8.25 shafts?
Getting ready to do my regear and was wondering if it's really worth it to upgrade the rear shafts. I'm for sure doing the front cromos and wanted to hear from some people running a similar setup. Gear ratio will be 4.88 Aussie locked.

Might as well. I'm running a 29spl 8.25 4.56 gears, Aussie on 35's. I wheel it pretty good, Aussie up front so I don't have to hammer it that hard.

It's worth it to do it once and not have to be as concerned with breaking an old shaft.
Here's a good place to get them.

You guys think it's worth it ? Aren't you just moving the breaking point to your gears? I would rather replace an axle shaft then pay someone for gears and a set up.
I could be wrong tho what do you think ?

I run 33's on a stock 8.25 The 8.25 can withstand 35's if dont abuse and of course u won't be able to get up and go as good but regearing can be expensive but if u have enough money I would just regear it

breaking an RP is fairly unlikely. I'd get the chromos
now if you're talking front axle with 4.88's, locker, and spicer 760's with full circle clip. you might want to actually keep the stock shafts in there. I've seen way too many a broken D30 4.88

it's worth it for the peace of mind. breaking a C clip shaft on the trail would be a nightmare. and if you break the ring and pinion then it was installed wrong, or it's a pretty big sign that it's time for you to step up to some bigger axles

Im running 4.56 gears ox locker in the d30 stock shafts grinded with full circle clips and washers welded over the ujoint caps.
I did the washers and full clips a few weeks ago when my joint cap started to walk on a trail.
In the rear 8.25 ive got a auto locker power trax no slip. I'm on 33s now but plan on going to 35s.
Guess I should get some stronger shafts for the rear.

pick your poison. some people would rather replace c-clip shafts all day instead of risk an RP. some times the shafts go and some times it's the RP. but you'd have to really be railing it. just learn to avoid binding situations. master that and you'll be able to keep everything just fine and in tact. oh and also don't try to pull out or tow a rig that is really stuck or much heavier than yours
the 4.56's in the D30 seem to be much stronger than the 4.88. so throw whatever you want at that D30. if some used chromo shafts pop up online then it can't hurt to grab them.

Forgot to mention I have an auto. Would the auto help relieve some of the driveline stress on the factory shafts allowing me to be a little harder on the drivetrain?
