3 inches to 5
Im on 3 inch rustys right now but want some input on going to 5. Would spacers and shackles be the best route? I wanna stay cheap. Eventually in a year or so I'll upgrade to a full 5 inch (or bigger) but for now I'm budgeted. Will the spacers and shackles cause a bad ride? I'll be adding 5 inch shocks and selling my 3 inch ones...I'll also be adding a tc drop...any suggestions?

I started with a 1 3/4" spacer and 2" add a leaf at beginning of my journey. I went to 3" coils to level out. Then month or so after that I went to spacers on coil and 2" shackles on rear and it drove fine. Very little vibration but alignment will be crucial and adjustable control arms recommended. Now, as of yesterday I'm on a 6.5" coil with 1 3/4" spacer and 4.5" rear leaf pack with 2" shackles. Of course after a 3" other stuff is considered: adjustable trac bar, adjustable control arms, control arm drop kit, extended brake lines, and sway bar link set. All from rough country

I started with a basic RC 3" kit no frills
this is what I did:
- home made 1.75" coil spacer in the front (later replaced with a New in box Rough Country 4.5" coil from craigslist for only $49)
- home made shackle relocation brackets in the rear
- like new Rough Country 1.5" lift shackles ($6 for the set at the local pull it your own damn self junk yard)
- front upper and lower JK control arms and home made shimmable frame side brackets
- removed steering stabilizer
- home made double sheer track bar and modded frame bracket
- used shocks that fit a 6.5" lift
maybe $200 tied up and it rides great and flexes awesome (could have went further but started to loose traction and was running like 55 psi in the tires... this run was on a 30° RTI ramp... score around 575, which translates to around 900 on a standard 20° ramp)
