3 Inch Lift, 31 Inch Tires Question

Hey guys,

Am I going to need to modify anything if I put a 3 inch lift and 31 inch tires on my 1992 xj laredo? For example, will I need to trim anything or replace the fender flares? I don't want anything to rub. I've also heard people lower the transfer case. I don't want to do this either. Will I need to with the 3 inch lift and 31" tires?

Thanks,
Al

depends. I just did this, and had full flex I touch the fenders. I will need to measure to see how much I need to bumpstop. As far as dropping the transfer case, it varies by jeep, but I didn't have vibrations

I had to trim the bottom inside corners of my front bumper. I rubbed on the control arms, but 2 inch spacers fixed it. No vibration, no tcase drop.

Guys say they clear 31 33 35" tires with x amount of lift. They are full of **** or possibly dont own a xj at all.

With most any oversized tire on most any after market wheel with just about any amount of lift you will need to trim and bump stop to to clear. Depending on severity and how vehicle is used alittle rub may be livable

Good luck by the way if I was wanting to run 31 I'd be looking into fender trimming and not lift at all. Though alittle taller does look better

You aren't wrong. My old xj had 33x12.5 tires with around 5" of lift and it would rub the back fender wells when after the cut and fold. I had to do some poly bumpstops to fix this. I think it was the width and offset that got me. A 10.5" wide tire would have been much easier.
To the op- my current xj has 31s with a 3" lift and it will probably rub somewhere if you go off road. If you street drive it I'm sure it's fine. If you don't want a transfer case drop then you could go for a slip yoke eliminator. My old xj had the hack n tap with a factory front drive shaft in the rear. It was a fairly easy upgrade.
