I got a hack-en-tap on my 242. My question to you though is why bother putting a 242 back in it if you plan to get a new t-case? Why not just get a 231 and get an sye kit for it instead. I swapped my 231 for a 242 cause i got it cheap with a hack-en-tap already on it and a drive shaft with it as well. It's really easy to do the swap and the 231 is stronger. All you need is a shifter assembly for a 231 t-case and a wiring harness for the 231 as well.

i would love to put a 231 in but i think the 242 is a better option for me in our harsh winters and dont want to have to switch back and forth threw the gears. plus the full time is very nice to have in winter.

heat it up until its almost melting again and knock it off. Or just try and knock it off without heat, might work just fine
