I am swapping a 242 into a 96 XJ auto and I have a doner 97 ZJ auto with everything available to me. Let me know if I have forgot something please:
Tcase
Shift gate
Interior bezel
Selector rod from handle to tcase
speed sensor

From what I've read the driveshaft may be too short but this swap is going into a lowerd XJ, I'm not sure if that makes a difference?

I toy with doing this to my '00 from time to time. Poke around on the internet to see what it takes. Like you want a complete XJ to get all the parts from to be sure. I am under the impression that there is a short harness that I would need if I want the Fulltime 4X4 light in my cluster to work.

I did this change 2 winters ago and love it for packed snow going from PT to FT as needed. The bezel, gate and T-Case were all that I used for my swap. Used the speed sensor from old T-Case and it dropped right in.The old linkage bolted right up and only needed a hair of adjustment. The drive shafts were the same length. I did not care enough to have a light as I can just look down to see where the lever is at. My donor came from a 2000.

Bezels will not direct swap from xj to zj... different shapes.

I did not even notice it was an ZJ donor. DUH. Will that TC even work with an XJ?

Thanks for the input. I will gather what I can and clean up the info after install. If I'm completely wrong about compatibility I'm only out $100 so not a big hit.

As long as the years are similar it should. But measurements should be taken to ensure.

Also driveshafts may need to be changed as well.
