2000 XJ header
I have a 2000 XJ 4.0 and am looking to replace the stock header with a aftermarket one but most brands i have seen only go up to 97 or 99. Does anyone know a good brand header for a 2000 or why those brands say they will only fit years up to 97 or 99?
Thank you, any help will be appreciated. |
heres the one im looking at getting for my 2000 http://www.rustysoffroad.com/jeep-pe...l-headers.html

dude BE CAREFUL. the reason the headers for 99' and older xjs wont work on your 00 is because the 00' model and up has 3 catalytic converters. 2 upstream by the header. and one after the front pipe. i run the banks torquetube headers. very tough well built. stay away from rustys. make sure u install it correctly and secure the gasket properly. u do not want to end up with an exhaust leak

I am a cheap bastard, so I bought this Rugged Ridge Stainless 17650.02 Header when I swapped a 96 motor into my 2000 Cherokee - $180 on eBay (I bought mine from somewhere else, but in a quick search this ebay sale is $100 cheaper than anywhere else)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/17650-02-Rug...563#vi-content The first one I got was welded wrong in the Jig when they built it and hit my intake manifold, so Rugged Ridge upgraded me to a Polished Stainless at N/C and sent me a new one and it arrived in 2 days. (I have a buddy who fixed the first one and it is going in my other Cherokee) It has been on the vehicle for over 4,000 miles now (including 2000 miles of towing a small trailer at 80mph) and no leaks, I thought the construction and quality of it was good. A buddy/mechanic suggested I use a thin coat of Hi-Temp Permatex "Copper" sealer on both sides of the gasket which I did. And yes you have to look - most 2000-2001 have a the split header to two pre cats, but not all do - so take a look from the bottom up and see if you see what looks like two small mufflers attached to your header. |
I got the same problem, looking for a replacement header for my 2000 XJ.
Most things I see is a package of two separate headers. We are cursed! I'm going to call Rusty's to double check if its exact for the 2000. Some late 99s also have the same problem with having the different header |
Yea good luck to ya. I have a 2000 model with the 2 front cats. Very annoying design but you know that epa crap. I personally wouldn't get ebay exhaust parts but thats me. I just have bad luck with parts in general lol.

Did you talk to Rustys yet? I need to fix mine as well and that's a $200 cheaper than the Banks header I was gonna get

The product descriptions come from the various manufactures/suppliers. At 5k parts it's simply not possible to go through them all and tweak each one.

I'm thinking of going with this header for my 2000. I thought about a Rugged Ridge, but I picked up a used one from a forum member and my mechanic said it was warped at the flange. Why would it be warped being aftermarket? Needless to say, I have another leak. I was thinking about picking up a brand new one because its $200 cheaper but the quality of the used one is deterring me. Anyone else have thoughts? |
