Default 2000 XJ Classic Exhaust

Tax return coming soon, planning on doing a custom exhaust. Headers can come later but what I can afford now is straight piping with no cat (my muffler guy likes me and will cut it off) and a cherry bomb glasspack.

Figure just 2.5 pipe all the way back and then this glasspack.

Anyone have a setup like this? How does it sound?

You have to leave the o2 sensor in it's fuel injected. With no cat why would it affect gas mileage? It would give it better airflow not having it right?

Well you can tune it to run stand alone.
But it might the cat/02 tells the ecu to make changes to the amount of gas it feeds, I know if can be done, I was thinking alongs the lines that you were going to lose the o2s

Running without cat is illegal in the USA and against forum rules to even discuss it here.

running without a catalytic converter is immature and pointless and illegal and against forum rules to discuss it doesnt lessen your horsepower or exhaust flow this isnt the 70's-80's when emissions stuff sucked and their isnt tuning capabilities like that for a jeep as far as i know could be wrong besides most "straight pipe systems" drone...and if you cant afford a header doing an exhaust on an xj is pointless so save do a header and a nice properly designed cat-back glasspacks "to me" sound dumb on a 4.0 especially with no tailpipe sound a bit better with full length tailpipe

mods should drop the ban hammer

Here's a better reply. OP, please check out the rules here: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/an...rum-com-rules/

p.s. I wasn't referring to your name. Think Mass and then hole. I dated a woman for 4 years who was from Mass and I read your first post in her pissed off accent.

When I needed to replace the exhaust I tried a couple different things. The cat had failed and was empty. I tried a magnaflow glasspack iirc it was in the 22-26" range, then I tried a Thrush welded(flowmaster style) and also tried them both with a performance curve cat. In all tests it sounded ok at idle but under load and going down the road it sounded like a ricer fart car. Maybe with 2.5" all the way through these might be ok. I ended up going with a $70 walker oem style muffler and the performance curve cat. It has a little throat to it but not obnoxious or stupid sounding. Ive gotten compliments from some older car guys how it sounds now.

Id love to get a sound like my old 5.0 mustang but I dont think its remotely possible on this 4.0.
