2 Door Xj into Pick-up with the Top Being a Camper Shell

Has anyone here seen or done a 2 door into a pick-up, but made the cut portion a removable shell like the hard top on a Wrangler? I've been trying to search without success.

Never seen it. I think there would be a lot involved to stiffen the unibody. Would be cool to see.

There is an episode of American Top Gear where they cut the back half of a 4 door so that it opens up. Sort of similar.

The roof is a major component of the structure though. I would just buy a Wrangler with it's frame and all.

I'd love to have a Comanche, but I haven't seen one for sale in a while. I already have a Wrangler and two Cherokees. One just sits. I'd like to have a pick-up truck. I'm figuring that I might as well my the old 1988 Cherokee into a pick-up rather than try to find a deal on a Comanche or Gladiator (old one) or J10.

Do you happen to know which episode?

I think that you would be better off trying to find a Comanche and using your 88 jeep to build one vehicle. Sometimes you can find deals on comanches that are 2wd. I've seen several for sale in my area (NJ) recently for like 2-4 thousand that are in running, driving, and not rust bucket shape.
