The 4.0 though just stock has more then enough power and will last for years and years to come. I'm running 250,xxx and can still white smoke my 33" and I haven't put hardly anything in the motor. Starter, valve cover gasket, plugs, wires, and cap. It's stock other than that and runs better then some brand new vehicles.
The Chevy 350 can hold up just as long as the 4.0L if taken care of, plus parts are cheaper and there's a stronger aftermarket support for the 350. In the '84-'86 Cherokees and Comanches, the motor mounts need to be swapped out (with minor modifications) and the firewall might need to be massaged to give enough clearance.

There were a lot of times with my '90 Cherokee that I wished I had the extra power, even with the 4.56 gears.

Ok so I've painted all of it blue except for the roof the 350 in the backyard fell through so i have started looking around On craig's list found a chevy blazer that has a 350 in it with 33" tires with good tread on them for $500 every thing works so I'm going to look at it with my uncle today and make sure the engine is good lol will let you know and will take pics of the jeep when paint is done
