Default 1999 4 Hole Injector Upgrade - "fail"

Howdy all.
After 224,000 miles I decided to swap my original injectors with new 4 hole upgrades. The 1st set: 5 OHM'd out at 12.5 and 1 of them at 18.0! I requested a new set and received 6 more, I OHM'd them out...5 at 12.5 and 1 at 26.0!!!.
I took the 12 and made a set of 6 12.5. I had to replace all the OEM connectors as well for the injectors as they were all dry rotted and broke when I removed them.

I followed the "procedure" reset my PCM. etc...started it up and it's like I'm running on H2O. Tried the "procedure" again and ran the jeep for 30 minutes under a "load". Still runs terrible...throwing no OBDII codes. I also verified that the injectors are spewing fuel....Any suggestions?

Thanks.

From what I understand it will take at least 50 warm ups/driving around for the computer to learn and use the right amount of fuel instead of spewing fuel as you mentioned...
Most will say the first few tanks of fuel will go fast until the computer learns the data then the fuel economy will be better...

Default 1999 XJ 4 Hole Injector - " Fail" reply

OK...I will be patient and drive it like "normal" and see what happens - I will post an update when I hit 50 starts and a few tanks of fuel. Great way to get out and go fishing!

Thanks for the info.

I would suggest you double check the connections of the new injector plugs. How did you attach them? Butt connectors? Soldiered joints? Also, if you received bad injectors twice, what cleaning procedure did they use? Are you sure the 'new' injectors are good?

Even letting the computer learn it shouldn't run that bad.

Where did you get the injectors, what model # are they?

My rig ran fine after putting the new injectors in. Perhaps you accidentally mixed up two of the plugs and its dumping fuel into the wrong cylinders?

x2 on what model injectors. I used 784's on my 99.

Mine ran fine as well after the modification. I had one odd start up, the Jeep kind of a had weird rumble for about 10 seconds then back to normal. Haven't had any issues since, knock on wood.

Mine also and with no elagorate PCM reset and with no PCM learning curve.
Though the battery was disconnected during the replacement.
Right after replacing the OEMs with 4-holer's, they worked right out of the gate and work great.

To the OPer, something has gone awry either with the injectors themselves or the installation. I'd double check your injectors and installation.

Mine was also totally fine after installing the Bosch 4-hole injectors, I did reset the PCM before starting it

Where are you buying them from? I got them from Injectordynamics on eBay and all mine tested fine with the multimeter before I installed them (few years ago). All have been completely fine for 30k ish miles now, they were rebuilt and flow-matched but still just used injectors

Did you get all of the wiring fully repaired? Can you try unplugging a single injector at a time to see if there is one that doesn't make the motor sound different?

Fuel pressure seems good? It really sounds like it is wiring related.

Also, even if they ohm checked they still might not be firing right. Injectors tend to seize up if they sit too long if they were not properly lubricated after rebuild, if they were rebuilt?

OP you still here?

I'm really interested in replacing the stock injectors in my 01 Sport
What has been the most proven set? Do you recommend a new fuel filter before install?

You want the 784s and the fuel filter is built into the fuel sending unit. The are one piece.

UPDATE! - I guess I taught my son "right"....he said "Dad...maybe ya still have air in the fuel line".....I purged the Lines again.....runs like a top. Went from 19 - 22 MPG to 23 - 25 MPG....I am happy an proud that my son has been "paying attention" over the years.

Thanks to all for their suggestions!

It's awesome your boy sorted it out for you. My daughter is two (maybe the next one will be a boy), I take her out in the garage with me whenever I can. She about has lug nut removal figured out.
