Default 1998 xj tire sizes

Hey everybody. New to the forum and I just bought my first xj. It came with a 2 inch front coil spacer so 30 inch tires fit just fine, with only minor rubbing on the lower control arms. My question is whether I should buy new 30 inch tires, or buy some used 32s I found for cheap and cut up my fenders. Any advice will be appreciated!!

It kind of depends on what you want to do with your Jeep.

You can solve the rubbing by adding some washers behind the steering stops or find/buy rims with LESS backspacing. IE 3.5" bs will be 1" further OUT than 4.5" BS. Ideal setup for XJs is 3.75" BS and that's what most 15" rims offer. I bought Trailmaster 15x8s from 4wheel parts for $160 shipped to my door.

I personally would buy the 32s and trim but it's up to you what you want to do. I've done 32s on 0 lift. Rims and trimming. Not much uptravel lol

lol yeah no flex. Would I have to trim a lot to fit the 32s?

At least an 1.5" of clearance would have to be added.

thanks for the input guys. I would like to go to 32s but since it's still a daily driver I'm going to go with 30s and get new wheels with less backspacing

Do consider a 15x8" wheel with the 3.75 to 4" max BS so you can run larger tires later on if you want. With a 3" entry level lift I ran 33x12:50x15's without all that much trimming.
