Default 1991 Xj clicking noise under drivers feet

Hey I have a 1991 Xj and Im getting an odd rotational clicking noise under my feet, I can feel it in the floor boards. I get it on start up, when accelerating, and sometimes even when stopped at a light/sign just sitting in drive. Any Ideas on whats causing this, it doesnt happen all the time but its getting often enough that it needs to be fixed. My first thought was flex plate so i pulled the inspection cover and tightened what bolts I could, noise is still there. any inputs very welcomed. Thanks

I had similar problem. Check your front drive shaft the splines on the slip yoke dry up over time when people don't lube them. You might have the rubber boot type and you will have to pull it back so you can pull the spline half out of the shaft . It will be dry just pack as much grease around the splines and into the shaft and put back together. It might be tough at first to slide back together but just keep working the grease and shaft till it slips together.

I did motor Mounts, checked and tightened the flexplate, then like CheckMate said, found the exhaust hitting the trans crossmember just enough that it was sending vibration through the crossmember and distributing to both sides of the car ... Now just gotta figure out what the best way of going about them hitting each other is without dropping the X-member and changing the pinion angle.. Anyone ever used a thick exhaust wrap to stop vibration between exhaust and metal??? Thanks again for the answers
