Just hopefully some helpful info removing my ABS. i am almost done with my 1990 xj abs master/ booster swap from a 1995 donor cherokee. i got a booster, master and everything hooked to it today at pull a part for $25 and a warranty. It is almost as bolt in as u can get. i ground the new mastercylinder rod to match my old one. On my lines i was just able to cut the nuts off the old tubing i needed from the ABS line and reflared them, and just bent them by hand to where i needed them.This is a trail rig so it didnt have to be perfect. So far no leaks, i suck at flares. Looks like i am going to have to drill a new hole in my brake pedal just a hair lower than what i have , it wont line up. I founf almost all the info i needed on here hope this helps someone some.

Got the 95 booster ans master installed, brake pedal drilled...I have brakes, still need some help bleeding them better but i can stop now

im doing the conversion right now as we speak and i have a 90 cherokee also and i bought a '97 master cyl and booster and the rod that connects to the pedal is 1 inch longer then original one so im having same problem with the pedal situation, how much lower did you have to drill the hole in the pedal? was it just like an eyeball thing? i was thinking of cutting the rod and taking an inch off it and reweld it back together but drilling a hole seems easier then that. all the help will be apprecitated

Just hook it up ...why are you drilling ? pedal height youll get use to.

I just finished this swap yesterday and the brakes have no pressure. Theres no leaks and ive bled the brakes and it wont build pressure. Is there something i have to do with the old lines from the abs to get the brakes to work?

A great booster to use on the old XJs is the 99 to 2004 WJ.

Next one I do, I'll document it. but, it's easy.

On my 90 xj i did the booster upgrade aswell, from a 97. Brake pedal height was less than desirable, taller than the clutch pedal for sure. I took the pedal out and welded on a 1"x3/5" bar stock to the driver side of the pedal. Then I drilled the hole out, lower and further on the pedal, on the newly welded tab. Pedal height is now with in a 3/4" of the skinny pedal, no more lifting my leg up to stop. Just a roll of my heel to change pedal positions. I would recommend going this route instead of cutting and welding the plunging rod. Just seems safer and easier.

I'm anti abs and traction control,I learned to drive in a car with 4 wheel drums.If you learn to drive and how to control a car you don't need the nanny add ons they use today.

I'm about to start on my ABS swap. I have a 1990 xj and I got the master cylinder, booster and proportion valve of a 2000 xj at the junkyard. Is there anything you guys would recommend before I get started. What was difficult about the swap and what should I do to aviod any problems? I read somewhere that I need to replace front brake lines. I contacted a jeep only junkyard and they have some for $50 off of a 96. Any info would help.
