Sorry if this is a repost. i did some searching on the site and couldnt find out exactly what i needed. i have a 1988 jeep cherokee 4.0 with the famous manifold leak. i would like to go to an after market header. My question is will the standard 1991 cherokee header work on my 1988????

i dont think an HO exhaust manifold will fit a renix head. IIRC either the intake or the exhaust was moved a little. why not just get an aftermarket for an 88?

Here ya go. Pacesetter.

You'll want to replace your motor mounts as well. If they are bad they may have caused the cracked header.

Exhaust ports are exactly the same. Renix has an EGR tube to the intake. HO doesn't. Renix has O2 sensor in manifold. Ho has the O2 sensor in the downpipe. It's doable.

Intake ports are a bit different but Renix to HO swaps are done with no problem. Done 2 of them and working on my third one now.

Change the headpipe to match the header and have an O2 sensor bung welded into the headpipe. The harness is plenty long enough. At the same time, you'll be eliminating that "crush" in the original headpipe. Easy.

I have an 88 as well and it drives me crazy to see that no one makes aftermarket headers! I'm not sure it'll just bolt right in, most likely some mods will be needed. I'm pretty sure that the Renix manifold comes straight down and the high output manifold swoops towards the back.

Does this mean I can take a 92' exhaust manifold/header, add the 02 sensor and EGR fittings and use on my 89'?
