Default 1987 dana 44 disc conversion

I am looking to do a disc conversion from the junkyard due to lack of fund for a $600 kit. Upon pulling off the drum i noticed the springs had broken and become chunks plus powder.

I have heard of the zj swap and also a kj swap. What years and models can i get these parts from and what parts are needed?

I did a search and couldnt find any specifics for the dana 44

thank you

Any Liberty with discs will be perfect, it's a bolt on affair.

Yep, same pattern.

Tranny issues made it unreliable. Was able to catch up on some bills and get a DD that was a better around town vehicle.

The replacement rig is in the garage and mostly torn down. Work will progress as time and income permit. No coin from my day-job, just what I make with the web site.....so it's gonna be a long slow build.

Good deal. Do you know if there is a write up on the swap?

What are you replacing it with? Was that a gm tranny?

I don't know of any, I would suggest googling of that swap.

yes it was a GM transmission. The new rig is an XJ as well.

Nice.

I googled around and I have only found mixed reviews of the swap and no actual info.

Im assuming all I need to grab is caliper, backing plate, maybe e brake cable? Rotors and pads Ill grab new

On a 44?

OP, have you upgraded to the dual diaphragm booster from a WJ yet?

Oh Snapple!
No, the KJ disc's will bolt onto a 8.25.

Grab the parts from a D44a equipped ZJ at your favorite JY.

The ZJ Dana 44A share the exact same disc brake components as the ZJ Dana 35. So you can pull the disc parts from any ZJ. The ZJ 44 is a C-clip axle & doesn't have the bearing retainer.

Easy fix.
A set of 03-06 TJ rubicon retainers work great, just need to weld-up the holes and drill new ones.
$12-14 each at the stealership.
