1 ton axle ?
thinking about doing 1 ton axle on my xj its a 2000 .....
i just wanna know wat axle are u guys using from wat truck i seen a few diff ones |
kinda overkill, unless you are gonna run over 35 " donuts.
|
Unless you want to run a 37 inch or taller tire they are overkill and pricey. The front axle will have to come from a ford 85-96 will be the best years to get.The rear end you can use the sterling from that same years trucks.Or some love the gm 14 bolt full float which came out in the 80s gm truck and used tell like 99 if i remember right.

Yes tire size tells you what differentials to run and the ones Andrew pointed are some of the best from a Ford super duty. To make them fit requires a lot of modification due to the size of them and cost.
I only run 35's max and use a Chy 8.25 29 spline and a D30 for my mostly off road 99 XJ. |
The lack of the letter h bothers me.... a lot.....

Kil-O-Wat :dunno: What ever could you mean?

See, I just saved .000001 seconds there! |
The super duty axles can be good and bad,The 99-04 years is what he would want he will need both since they use a metric lug pattern. They made a ton of dana 50 front axles with look just like a 60 so you gotta watch what you buy.And they use unit bearings which i hate,They give no warning when they go out and are pricey to replace.Off road i rather have a 91 back dana 60 its king pin and has bearings i can replace a lot cheaper.

First try finding either axle in a junkyard and not the price of your first born child. The dana 60 from those years is 1200 to 2 grand just for the front axle. The dana 44 78-79 f100/f150 has the wedges cast in to the axle. The f250 dana 44 has thicker axle tubes and 8 lug but besides that its still a dana 44 a half ton axle. The price on those can very from 300 to 800 bucks depending where you live. The 85-96 dana 60 is a lot easier and cheaper to get,Or if hes lucky he can get a set of 99-04 super duty axles dirt cheap since they are all everywhere.
