Default 01 XJ 8.25 Swap...ABS question

After a year of looking I found an 8.25 with 4.10s at a yard and I snatched it up. Plan on regearing the front this weekend and pulling out the 35. My question is regarding the ABS. I know when I cut all that loose I'm going to have a light come on in the dash (which I despise). Will pulling all the ABS related fuses kill the fault light and not screw up my brakes?

If it's different for a 2001 then this won't help, but in my 1999 there's a relay for that light which I pulled and it took care of it. There were 2 fuses and the relay and the ABS doesn't cause trouble and the light no longer comes on.

Hope that helps!

While your swapping you need to get rid of the LPD30 you have in yours and go to a HPD30 found in all XJ's 99 and back but 97-99 is great. You will gain a stronger differential and higher clearance with the HPD30.

My Cherokee is a 99% daily driver with the only offroad use at our hunting property. I would have like to swap the front but all the good deals I read about on here regarding axles at junk yards don't seem to apply here in Texas (to many Jeepers I guess). Cheapest I have seen a front axle is around $450. Not worth that to me

I double this. Same on my 98. Pulled relay, no problem. Didn't even cut lines, just removed the sensors and unplugged them. Just in case I wanted to go back for some reason.

FYI The Jeep Liberty (dunno what years) had ABS with 8.25 rear end. I think backing plates may be all that's needed (maybe have to do something about the parking brake cables).

EDIT: Just in case someone with an older Cherokee is thinking of doing this, please double check info. I remember some older Cherokees had some issues with losing vacuum and the brake booster not working well or at all. Scary $#it if you ask me.

No xj came with stock rear disc so unless someone swapped it its going to have drums. The 2.5 xj came with 4.10 gears and remember your front ratio has to match the rears.

I know that, and thanks for clarifying. But what I'm wondering if an 8.25 out of a 04 dakota would bolt in, because you can find those with discs & 4.10, just not sure if everything else would line up, but I'd think it would.
Gonna swap my R&P in the front same time as I do the rear.

Here is an older thread, I replied with some pictures of my 01 after I swapped out my LPD30 & D35 to a HP30/Chry 8.25. Just pull some fuses, see my response

Great upgrade (the 8.25), like Fred said, the HP D30 is part 2 of the upgrade. search some pick & pulls, I have a P&P near me that has 3 XJ's now all with HP/D30's for $200-$150.

Good luck, hit me up with any questions.

No.

But..........

Find a 03 JK and remove the rear disc backing plates and calipers.
All bolt on.
