Cherokee Noise from Aberdeen Scotland

Hi all

I have a 2001 Cherokee, 3.7 Petrol 'Limited'.
I am experiencing a whining noise during normal driving. Appears worse in two wheel drive mode but still there in 4 wheel drive mode as well.
I've checked the front wheel bearings and breaks which are okay.

I recently had a routine service carried out and no problems were reported. The car has done just over 100,000 miles.
Has anyone experienced the same problem and what was the solution?

Check your diff and transfer case fluid levels are up. if you change them check the old fluids for any excessive debris which may indicate wear. How are the universal joints on the front axle and the drive shafts, useually accompanied by a vibration. Is the whine from the fan belt? Idler pully perhaps, water pump, clutch fan, alternator.
The other day I put on a new fan belt, the alternator was howling, only 1 yr old. Sprayed liberally inside with wd40 (not on the pully or belt), now no noise. Check out those things. Good luck
