So I found an XJ posted today on Det CL looks sharp, price is nice but the head leaking and the high mileage is making me skeptical, let me know what you would do or think.

oh man... you keep finding these tough deals, lol.

for $1,600, that's not bad, but the head gasket does have me a bit worried. if he's been running it and driving it, i'm sure he is then leaking coolant into the oil (despite the oil change) and doing some internal damage to the engine. i'd ask him how many miles he has driven it in that state, and see if you can haggle down to $1,000. if you do buy and the engine is ok, the $600 for the gasket job will bring you up to the $1,600 he wants for it.

i agree....i'd try and bring down the price. $1200 would be the most that i would pay for it.

if he actually replaced the head gasket, then i'd say $1,600 would seem fair. of course, ask to see the paper work, or CarFax it.

looks clean but 1600 is a bit high. I would try and talk him down to about a grand.

He said he's flexible but I'd have to see it before I offer him anything. Me head is so messed up, its like yeah, but no.

For $1200 it's a good deal. And yeah, I agree w/him not taking any offers unless you see it. I hate offers w/out seeing the car. That usually shows the buyer is not really serious.

Go have a look at it. I'm sure he'll take $1200. It's a really nice jeep otherwise.
