Default Windshield gasket

So I was supposed to get a windshield installed but the guy might not make it today. I was trying to be proactive and I washed and waxed the Jeep. Stupidly I cut away the outer part of the gasket around the windshield so I could get all the crud out and wax the part that will be under the gasket where it lies on the body. Should I be worried about it leaking? It’s supposed to rain some for the next few days. Not sure how concerned I should be. The gasket is still under the glass and there’s plenty of sealer around it. What do you all think?

No, all the moulding is to make it look good and fill in the gap, the actual glass is urethaned to the pinch weld.

Ya that’s what I was thinking but I wasn’t 100%. Damn installer canceled my Tuesday appointment on Monday due to receiving a broken windshield. Rescheduled for today then he called late afternoon and said he won’t make it. I didn’t reschedule and am currently waiting to hear back from 3 other places. Chances of rain every day until Monday so I might have to have them do it inside somewhere. I am on vacation this week so I figured I would get it done while I was home. I’m going to frequently check to make sure it’s not leaking anyway since there are a few spots exposed that wouldn’t have been otherwise. Most I might have to do is run some tape around the windshield.

Not sure if the warranty makes it worth it but that’s just entirely way too much. That’s half of what I paid for the Jeep.

$364 is way high. I just got one installed in my garage last year for under $200.

Wow! I wish that was the case here. So far I got 3 quotes this morning. $225, $265 and $325. The place I was originally getting it from was $220. I remember a conversation with a member here that does auto glass. He was saying the market price for a windshield is only like $70 or maybe it was less. I think if someone were to do them for $150- $175 it would still be profitable. Talk about price gouging lol.

Whats your deductible, if you have one? All my vehicles have it. I pay the deductible, insurance pays the rest. IF you want to go thru your insurance. Wont know until you ask. The worst they can say is no. Mine had no issues with it. The installer told me to keep the old inspection stickers and call the shop that issued them, for replacements.

I am thinking that is about what my glass guy would want.
I met him through my body guy.

To Waynerd
We are local to each other enough that I think he would travel to you. I think. LOL.
If you would at least like to talk to him PM me for his info.
Through my body guy he handled my front windshield. When the '00 was in for surface rust issues on the roof and hood.
I had a leak that I determined was coming in through the front windshield. Figured if it was more then a remove, regunk, and replace
my body guy could handle it at the same time. You remove a windshield you never really know for sure what you are going to find under there.
Turned out it was fine under there so....
He gave me his card and after that I contacted him direct when I swapped all my glass over to privacy glass in the '00.
I handled the door and cargo area glass but had him do the hatch. I did not feel confident that I would have done a good job if I tried.
My thinking. When in doubt let the experts deal with it. LOL.

Hey thanks for the offer. I have a couple more I will need replaced in the future I’ll keep that in mind. I got a guy doing it tomorrow for $225. He doesn’t mind it’s easter so I said why not. I need to return to work next week and would rather be around when it gets done.

Mine was about $200. I wouldn't pay $364.

About the insurance too. I have a $1000 deductible. I have my insurance as low as it can possibly be. Least coverage, high deductible. My insurance on 2 Cherokees is less than insurance on just my wife’s VW.

Got the glass installed today. $225 cash price. Very professional and did a clean job. The gasket he used actually fit better than the two I had done by safelite in the past. @Ralph, the company is called All Clear Auto Glass. They’re out of Southington/Meriden. Closer to you I think. I was going to get in touch with the body guy in town. He mostly does insurance work but I’m sure he has them removed/installed once in a while on his dime.

That seems so much more reasonable. Glad you got it handled.
That is only 2 towns over from me.
Thinking your body guy like my body guy has a glass guy too.
Say that 3 times fast. LOL.
When I contacted my guy direct for the hatch window he charged me $100.
But not only did that include putting the privacy glass hatch glass in mine but removing from the boneyard Jeep too.
I bought the gasket though. That cost me $33 through my Jeep dealership.
Seeing how he removed or replaced glass 3 times that seemed reasonable to me.
Remember when I mentioned that you really never know what it might look like under the windshield when removed?
Came across this picture in a thread a few minutes ago.
