Why does my AC smell like moldy feet?
I did a little searching on this forum but couldn't find a whole lot. My AC goes through short spells (like 2 minutes at a time every few days) where it smells like sweaty, dirty feet. It just comes and goes at random. It's getting annoying and quite embarrassing!! Anyone have any suggestions?
Sorry if this has been covered before. I couldn't find much on the subject.

It smells like mold because there's mold in your HVAC system. When you constantly run your a/c on the max setting that recycles the air in the cabin, it will get condensation in it that will eventually grow mold. That's why it's good to run it on the fresh air setting from time to time if it's not too hot outside. To kill the smell, you've got to kill the mold. Turn the system on the fresh air setting with the blower on high and spray about a half a can of Lysol in the fresh air intake at the base of the windshield, then shut it off and leave it for a while. The Lysol smell will go away and so will the mold.

I did not know that little trick, either. Thanks for the post. My A/C doesn't smell moldy but, I will definitely keep that trick in my gray matter. I bet a lot of guys have that problem when buying used XJs.

Or mix up some bleach and water and pour it down the vent on the outside of the jeep. If it is bad enough you may need to pull the dash and clean it out. Someone just did a wright up on this a few weeks ago.

I'm a germ-phobe and run my a/c on fresh air in the dead of winter a few times to kill any germs in there and this has helped a great deal with a/c vent odors.....
But thanks for the new tips and tricks!
