Default Who has painted the XJ via roll on paint

Whats up guys,
Winter is coming quick in CNY and i need to get my XJ back up to road worthy specs. Im getting excited to start driving it again and beating the hell out of it. Its a nice change from the 300zx i just purchased. My question is tho: Who has painted their rigs with the roll on paint and are you pleased with the results. My paint is faded and there is rust forming all over it. I want something "unique" as my XJ is dented pretty bad and just generally a POS. Doesnt bother me lol. Anyways, just looking for insight as to who makes the best roll on paint for the best price. Also, will it matter that i paint in like 55 degree weather? I want to see some pics of you self painted rig. My jeep is that dark green now, so idk if i need to prime or just roll over it? Insight, suggestions, tips, comments, PICS!!! all welcome!!!
Thanks a bunch
Ryan

You'd probably be happier brushing it on. You could roll it and back brush it, too. Sand down all surfaces to be painted with some low grit, clean with solvent, paint! I would recommend bedliner at least for lower 1/4-1/2 of jeep. Rugged and you can paint it. But if sticking with paint, I suppose you'd want to use oil, in which case you wouldn't want to be much under 50*, but with latex (not recommend) some can go down to low 40's, high 30's! Hope This helps.

Edit- at 55* your fine, but be weary of moisture in air! Especially with oil!

A guy in my town used to paint his cars with textured rollers with house paint. IMO, it looked like ****.

google paint job on a budget, $50 paint job. you want the thread on moparts.com i think.
i did it about 5 years ago. still holding up fine.

http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/...0&fpart=1&vc=1

scan down to 69chargeryeehaa and follow his post.

it's all in the prep. a crappy prep job will make the most expensive paint look like crap.

take your time, sand all the hard edges smooth (featheredge) as we call it.

i used spray the same brand/colour spray to get under my door handles and around my mirrors, etc, and just rolled on the flat surfaces.

i only got a couple of runs that when dry, i just used a blade to cut them down, then wet sanded it and it all looked good for me.

i did it all in the course of a week, wet sanding between each coat.

doesn't need to take a week, i just had the time. you can do it pretty good in about 3 days.

rolling camo doesn't really work tho, unless you know something i don't.

If you roll it you need high density foam rollers and at 55 its going to take forever to cure properly.

If you have access to a compressor you can get a regulator and a decent spray gun for under $100. The actual painting is the easy part, its the prep and sanding between coats that really counts.

Also, unless your paint is like new (including clear coat) you cant paint over and even then you have to sand off the clear coat. Otherwise youre looking at taking the whole thing down to bare metal, priming, painting, and clear coating it.
