whats your pick

Howdy , new guy here ! looking to buy a Cherokee as a tow vehicle! Gotta be a 4X4 ,cheap one to trick out real sweet. Not going for big muscle or horses.
Any best model year suggestions to start this project appreciated !!!!!

Last Cherokee was a '78 levi edition 401ci with a t400, it was bad ***.
This one needs to sip the fuel a bit better, and be a cheaper build.

I think 98/99 are the best year. Definitely go with the 4.0 if you are going to be towing. Renix lovers love the old ones but the OBDII is nice, the lack of a million vacume hoses is nice. The new interior is much nicer as is the outside. You get the High Pinion Dana 30 and they have a few extra ponies. Get past 99 and you have the 0331 head issues and the Low pinion Dana 30. I have had a couple from different years. Have a 92 and a 99 now. 99 is much more comfortable and has way fewer quirks even though it is heavily modified while the 92 is stock.

Just my opinion of course. All of them are fairly cheap to build.

The question is what your gonna tow and its weight?

Ian , sorry I am going to tow the jeep behind my rv. I am pretty stuck on the 2.5 with the stick. Do you still like the 98-99 years & is that manual gearbox a good one ?

Yup! Still like the newer ones. The 2.5 manual comes with 4.10s in later years... I had it backwards Haha... Though you meant you were going to tow with it.
