What You Think It's Worth?
I am headed to look at a 1998 4X4 Limited with 170K on it. Supposed to be in good shape xcept the front driver fender was replaced with a diffeent color and hasnt been painted. So whats a fair offer?

$20
But seriously, its hard to say without seeing the truck in person. And you haven't even provided a link or photo, so everyone will be taking shots in the dark. Maybe $2500? |
Yeah, I understand. I really dont know much about it yet either. Just what the guy told me on the phone. Im going to look at it now.
|
Get us some detailed pics if you can.

Ok I will.

Here's the low down.
THE BAD: It was rougher than I expected based on his description. It had a few small dents and the flares looked like they had been knocked around. The interior is pretty worn with some holes. The front fiberglass cap has a hole in it. No radio, open hole. ABS light on. Sagging headliner. Weak battery. THE GOOD: Seems to run good. All electronics work. Almost new 31" Mud Kings. 2" Suspension Lift. No evidence of major oil/fluid leaks. I dont have any good pictures. My camera phone didn't have enough light. I would consider the body "fair" no rust just looks like its been dinged up. I told the guy I could not see paying over 1200 for it as it sits. He said he couldn't take less than 1500 (he was asking 2500). So what do you think? |
This is only my opinion, but I would keep looking until you find what exactly your looking for. There are tons of these out there. Don't settle, you'll regret it.
|
That was kind of my thought too. I'm sure its worth 1500 but I really dont want to tackle the body work even if it is minor.
|
I looked for months for mine. Then again, I live in upstate NY and was looking for rust free! LOL
|
1500 really isnt bad tho. You wont find one in better shape for much less thats a 98 or newer.
The question is can you fix the problems yourself? If so think about it. If not pass on it. Or show him the 1200 cash. |
Ive only been looking for about a month. Im sure I will find the right one. I dont really know what that is yet though. I havent narrowed my search beyond an XJ, with a 4.0, in good shape, at a decent price, that I can build something from.

Like I told the seller, I would want to fix it right and I am afraid I would end up with a lot more in it than it was worth to make it right. Not that that has ever stoped me with anything else! |
I was looking for about 4 months and then I decided to not rush it and wait to get a 97+ model. Well then unexpectedly A guy emailed me about my POS truck and I talked to him a few times then traded for his 91 that im in love with now! (minus the rims)

Dang! Thats a nice one!! Im sure the right one will come along. The bad thing is, it seems like the prices here in central La are high compared to everywhere else. I dont mind driving to buy one but I hate to go look when a seller is not honest about the condition.
|
After doing a lot of thinking and internet searching, I bought it. For $1500 I dont think I'll end up regreting it. I had told the guy I would have to pass on it Friday but after seeing that the parts I was concerned about were readily available and not expensive, I called him back and asked if the deal was still good. Its in good shape mechanically and should just need a few trips to the local junk yard to get the interior in good shape. I will post a picture if I can figure out how to do it
Im happy with it. Off to Advance for tune up parts!! |
