You could get front and rear receiver hitches and some shackles. Maybe even a masterpull super yanker or at least a strap. A shovel might also come in handy, especially if you drive on sand.

i got heavy duty shackles on the back would those do it with out breaking?

Modestmike 05-27-2011 08:41 AM

What are they mounted to?

I have a rear hitch with D-ring and IRO's front tow hook mount and hooks. I am a huge fan of both! They have worked very well with my 30ft strap.

there attached to my leaf springs lol... and i wanna get a hitch cuz i heard it comes in handy instead of smashing up your bumper.

blacknbluexj 05-27-2011 08:48 AM

but mounted to the frame

Are you serious?

blacknbluexj 05-27-2011 08:51 AM

which is why i want hooks instead of attaching it to that...

You can get a front receiver hitch for around $125 and a rear cheaper of you can find one at a local JY.

get a hitch mounted properly to the rear and either a proper recovery bumper with proper frame tie ins or at least proper recovery mounts with proper frame tie ins for the front.
do not cheap out with recovery equipment. it's the line between fun and fatal injury.

if you do happen to venture out without proper tug points and you do end up getting stuck, use a 30x3 inch recovery strap and go through the front doors and behind the seats, then around the rockers and under the jeep between the wheels to the front or rear of the jeep, then use a shackle and another strap from that. just be sure to only close the doors one click when the strap is in use, so you don't damage the strap or doors.
this is called a cruise loop. it is proper recovery procedure for roadside ditch recovery, and will work better than just hooking to suspension parts that will damage your vehicles road manners.

i realize it may be hard to get the strap under the jeep when in mud, but you will have to become creative and use a tree branch or wire/rope tied to the loop of the strap.

Got a class IV hitch at the JY for $25. Used it to pull others out and it works great
