Wow. This seems embarrassing to put here because you guys all seem to have paid a lot less.

Got a 99 Limited had everything I was looking for. Under 100k, black leather w/ no cracks, everything inside is PERFECT, no rust, towing package, 242 tcase, fresh upcountry springs all the way around (no sagging).

Maybe things are different around you guys... but around here, it took a couple months to find one for sale that wasn't rusty. I only had to drive a couple hours to go get it too. Or maybe I'm just too picky.

Anyways, paid 5k.

$500. It was stock, but had a 3" suspension lift. 145,xxx with no rust, just dirty inside & out with a few minor imperfections such as door dings & faded decals. Below is more of an explanation I copied from another post I made.

My neighbor bought it from a girl at his work to make profit. After telling my friend about it he sold it immediately it him($2500). He doesn't wheel, but nearly drove it til it died, but I said I would like to save it. He just never did any maintenance in the 3 years he drove it. I replaced the starter, radiator & a few other small things for him before I bought it.

Knowing it needed some work. I Replaced the water pump since it decided to go out on the way to my house. I replaced the clogged catalytic converter. You could hear it ping and pop in there when you gave it some gas and it wouldn't get up to speed & was choppy up slight hills at hwy speeds. Although I found out that the downshift cable was frayed so that turned out to be the main culprit. It would barely start in neutral so I rebuilt the neutral safety switch. Then I did a complete tune up before I did a compression test to find out the head was cracked between the intake and exhaust valves of #1 cylinder. Swapped it with a salvage yard head. After replacing the head I found that the exhaust manifold was cracked. I had it welded. Finally taking it up to get an inspection it failed because of the lower ball joint. Since it was something of simple maintenance & not emissions I was relieved.

I just picked up a 96 Cherokee with 200 thousand miles on everything except the motor which was replaced about 2 years ago... The owner was completely fed up with the poor XJ because she has been fighting the people who installed the motor to fix the oil leaks the motor developed.

She let me take it off her hands for $500

It has not been maintained other than oil/lube so it needs tons of work, but for that price I can't pass it up. Wish me luck with replacing everything.

I paid 3500 has new old man emu. Brand new tires. New plugs and wires. New injectors. New belts. I found a Jet Proformance Chip on craigslist, and cold air intake on ebay. I get 22 mph in town and 27 highway @ 65-70mph. The person selling this is ASE and had a wrangler for sale. He was keeping the one that didn't sell.

$700 for 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 with small title issue (previous owner did not ever sign it--had to go back to previous owner) That was my negotiating point--I could have been SOL. 208,500 miles. Have tinkered and spent $850 more. Now its a pretty good running solid ticking time bomb at $1550 invested.

Nice jeep man but 22mpg in town and 27 mpg on the highway? Do you have that documented? Because id like to know how you got those numbers, itd take alot more then a CAI, injectors and a chip to get those out of a 4.0.

Yes the previous owner had 3 memo note books the start date was july 16th 2000 with miles, price of gas, how many gallons and the mpg. Was always 15-19 range. I have continued writing in this book. Maybe it's the 5 speed. Maybe the old owner is in his 50's and drove like an old man. I drive mine like one. I'm never in a hurry to get home to the demanding old lady.

Wow then you should post a thread on this, If its true im sure alot of people on here would like to know about it, just be sure to say you have the memo book and show it, ive got a 98 5-speed as well and if the jet chip really makes that much of a difference then that may be my next major investment. Sorry for getting off topic.
