Replaced the rear brake shoes, brake hardware, and wheel cylinder.
Installed the new stainless brake lines.

Re-bled the brakes with a vacuum bleeder. Fired it up. Pedal went straight to the floor.
It could be the booster check valve, but the new 96 xj booster should be here this weekend anyway

I lost my phone part way through, so I didn't get much for pictures.

While replacing my RMS I noticed that the person who had done it previously torqued the main bearing cap to 120 ft-lbs (supposed to be 80), so the bearing is pretty well destroyed.

I'm planning on a full rebuild next summer. Hopefully it holds out for a couple thousand more miles.
On the plus side it looks there are no more oil or exhaust leaks.

Picked this guy up while looking for skids. Of the 6 xj and zj gas tank skids I found all of them had the bottoms cut out. 🤔

Dropped the tank yesterday, today installed new Airtex pump, new fuel filter, new fill and vent tubes, all new hose and clamps, and new MOPAR brand vents on the top of the tank.
Monday I have to go get my Defender roof rack installed, and hopefully my ARB RTT will be here before we leave???

I have to have this already before next Thursday.

Every year we do this "Turkey In The Desert" trip.
It's a cool get together of Full Size Jeeps (except me in my XJ this year) we do every year out near Florence AZ.
We deep fry a couple turkeys, stuffing made in dutch ovens, and lots of other good eats, camp for a couple days, and do some trail riding.

So they can access the drain plug without removing the "skid"

Broke a u joint on the long side. Second one in 3 trips. First one the cap popped out (probably the half circle clips) this one sheared the trunnion, busted one cap, and spread the ears on the stub. Half circle clips are still holding strong thoughWhat did you do to your Cherokee today?-photo71.jpg

OH Snap!
I am sorry that happened to you.
May I ask what type of joints they were?

One was what appeared to be a factory spicer joint (was definitely spicer and definitely been in there a while) and one was a spicer I had put in a few years ago. It's not a big deal though. I carry spare shafts so I just have to get a new spare for the next trip

I meant the bottoms of the gas tank skids were cut out/off.

As as far as the ZJ TC skid I’ve run into a lot of XJ people on trails that run them and none have said they wished they’d have paid $100 more on a skid.

The yard around here punches holes in the tanks. Maybe they cut the skid to punch a hole

Today was the first not windy weekend in a while so I decided to work on some of the rust holes in the back.

the first piece in.

both pieces in and fluid filmed until I can paint them later.

the donor metal that gave its life for my floor.
That's just one spot. Hopefully I can work on It a little bit at a time and have it done before they start salting the roads.

Today I pulled the dash apart to fix my intermittent gauge cluster drop out, which makes the airbag light come on and all the other gauges die.

When I got it apart I found that the PO (Or mechanic, IDK) had not installed the green clips correctly on the black plastic mounting thing. Sprayed it with electronics cleaner, used some dialectic grease, and put her back together.

Also did some paint touch up on the wheels with Plasti Dip and the Jeep's body with the Carbon stuff I get from O'Reillys.

I'll be picking up a Mopar CPS on Tuesday, which will hopefully end the CEL saga lately.

Somehow my windshield washer pump ground went bad. Cleaned up the ground inside the engine bay on the fender but still only saw 8v at the connection.
Bypassed it and ran a new ground, instantly seeing battery voltage at the connector and the pump was working great.

Stupid wires....
Bought a new windshield washer pump that I guess I didn't need but it was only $15 or so so I guess I will just run it and keep the factory one as a spare since it still works fine....

Made some maintenance discoveries.

Finally founda leak! Yay, it'sa real Jeep now!
Transmission cooler line has a pinhole leak somewhere. Didn't have time this morning to see which one, but hopefully it won't require too much time losing warmth to the driveway through my back.

Driver door lock/latch needs cleaned and winter-safe lube. Fixed it with a torch from a safe distance so I could drive to work, but when the ambient temps staying in the 30s there's no other fix really, unless I want to slam my door into an early complete replacement...

Also the aux fan is jacked—making the whole cabin vibrate, which is something.
