It's actually due to having a new septic system installed years ago. (The county wouldn't let us repair the old one.) The heavy equipment that had to get into the back yard took its toll on the driveway and of course over the years it's gotten worse. I still have enough good surface to jack vehicles up though so with other projects needing attention repaving has not been a priority.

My driveway kinda sucks too. I purchased a 2"x12"x8' plank from Home Depot. Had them cut 2 2' sections and 4 1' sections. My 1.5 ton aluminum Harbor Freight jack sits just right on the 2' piece and the jack stands fit fine in the 1' squares. Unfortunately my 3 ton HF jack does not.

Finally had the time and proper motivation (In the form of a buddy and a 3ft. cheater bar) to address the famous "oil filter adapter leak". I am amazed that those gaskets used to be rubber at some point. Got her back together and what do you know, it's no longer crying Rotella.

The key is to heat up the engine first. After that, it's a simple matter of leverage and brute force.

I got a late start. Installed my XJWONDERS Upgraded Battery Cable Kit !!! Kinda sounds like the Ovaltine Secret Decoder Ring ,,, from the movie, "Xmas Story !!! Anyway, it started out ******, the ground bolt broke !!! I'm like, give me a break !!! Well, I got it done too late to take any pictures, so I'll post some up tomorrow. On tomorrow's menu, are a headlight harness upgrade and a new set of EuroPal Headlight Upgrade with Phillips Xtreme Vision 130 % bulbs !!! Then might hit the ol oil filter adapter gaskets again! Going to make sure it's not the distributor first though? I just replaced both of them ?!?!

Thanks Twisted! Still have upgrades to finish up, like a SYE and new rear driveshaft. Electrical headaches are finished, windows are working great after repairing the heavy ground wire in the door harness.

Another break in the bad weather today, so I replaced the broken gas tank strap. It was impossible to get the nut off the j-bolt so I cut through the tab on the gas tank shield that attaches to it to remove the bolt. Even putting that bolt in a vise and heating it up that nut just would not budge. So I went to Plan B which was pointed out earlier in the thread:

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/che...lt-fix-114357/

I could not find quite the exact parts, my local hardware store didn't have any 3/8 open-hook turnbuckles, but they did have appropriate threaded hooks and connectors:

Obviously some modification was called for, had to cut down the hook a bit and cut overall length to about 9" to match the original. It was easy enough with a reinforced Dremel cutting wheel and finishing off the cut ends on a bench grinder:

It went right into place. For now I used a big fat zip tie on the gas tank shield to keep it from banging around and making noise. I'll have to come up with a more permanent fix for that later. That gunk all over it is Fluid Film, sprayed on generously in an attempt to slow down corrosion. This would have been an opportune time to give the entire underside its fall treatment but I don't have enough on hand right now, have to order some.

No time right now to do the 2nd strap but it looks in pretty good shape and passes the screwdriver test. Might well have been replaced by the previous owner. That one will have to wait until I get a Round Tuit.

I am planning on a rear carrier sometime in the future. Roofrack... meh. Because i run with no swaybars front or back, not too keen on adding weight on the roof.

Snorkel? This build will be done in two phases. Gonna stick with 30s for now, light overland/wheeling, while i focus on the interior. Custom cargo system, camping specific mods and so forth. Phase one.

Slowly as a tackle that stuff, i plan on building beefed up/regeared axles on the side. Bit by bit gather up everything ill need to completely revamp/upgrade the powertrain & driveline.

Thatll be phase two. Which will include 33" tires, winch, snorkel, etc. I keep tickling the idea of a V8 swap, but for simplicity sake, ill probably just build a stroker i6.

Nice work. Is Fluid Film like the best stuff ever. I run it in the winter. Only reason I don't run it year round is cause I am still working under there. And Fluid Film makes it that much messier. I do keep bushings, leaf springs, shackles, etc Fluid Filmed year round. I think it reduces the squeaking. My parking brake adjustment, which I think is a very poor design cause of how it just so exposed to the elements, I soak in PB Blaster and then douse quickly with Fluid Film. Run that like that year round to. I had enough trouble freeing up those bolts to adjust my E brake when I did my rear brakes a few years back. Not going through that again. LOL.

Thanks - tightening up the strap came pretty close to where the 3/8" coupler is but there are still some threads there and it's nice and snug. Thought I might have to make some adjustments at first but it looks like it'll be OK.

Yes, Fluid Film is definitely the bees knees for slowing down the tinworm! Wish I had known about it ages ago. Ah, life in the rust belt!

Lol well i got PLENTY of time to decide, who knows?

Cleaned the bejesus outta these and the door panels. They were super dingy. Nothing like that moment when you think about the fact that you're resting your arm on 20+ years of other people's arm-sweat. Gross.

And now that they're nice n clean, on they went!
