Took the cover off of my CHRYCO 8.25 to check gearing, and put some fresh gear oil in it (I HATE THE SMELL OF GEAR OIL!). After a clean of the cover , I wire brushed it, and painted it with Hammered Black Paint.
Got my (new to me) NP231 up in the hole. WHAT A PITA!!!!
Even with a tranny jack it was not fun, but it is up there. Started installing the NOVAK cable shifter for the TC.

Picked up two more 4cyls for the MJ. One has 42k on it, the other a little over 60k. I see two more experimental strokers lol.

Ithink it's the wonky shape and angle the tcase mounts on, because with or without a jack it blows. My recent install I just had to get under it, bench press it up, and have a buddy hand-thread the nuts. (Mostly because my trans Jack was holding up ... the transmission.)
What did I do today (last night)? Well I hoped to have a working a/c finally, but there's a wiring issue there, and then this happened. Blech...

I ordered some transmission solenoids a few days ago, and they come in from Amazon today. I've been reading how 98 XJ's are particularly prone to failing solenoids and these have 230K miles on them so it's worth a try. The tranny's been slipping from 1st to 2nd and a little from 2nd to 3rd so I hope this fixes the problem. For $80 shipped including a new filter and gasket, let's hope it works as advertised.

Made it to my destination misfire free, started it to go like 15 minutes away and it started misfiring again. Got a few more replacement injectors and replaced the bad one. Hopefully I'll make it back home Wednesday without having to get more. Once it's home it can sit till I get a new fuel tank.

Got the Novak Shifter installed, shifted amazingly smooth.
Novak cable shifter in.
Then proceeded to get everything else back up. Got to the drive shaft, and this!
The 01 Jeep Wrangler NV231 is different. Yes it will bolt up to the AX5, but the tail is WAY longer.
So now the NV231 is back down, and I am looking for a NP231J with a 21 spline input shaft.
I can't get a break with this Jeep.

Picked up some 35s and tossed them on the rear for a quick check. This is on stands, the tire off the stands sits aligned with the pinstripe at the body line of the rear quarter fold

Waiting again !
Got everything cleaned and painted, ready to put back together. Ordered a new "C" clamp , OTC, to put my ball joints back in. My other one bent removing them. Found that one of my new front rotors was damaged, so I'm also waiting for that !

I got the tranny solenoids installed today. I am stunned how much this helped my transmission breath new life into itself. I am no longer slipping in 1st gear, and each shift just feels more deliberate, like I imagine it felt like when a brand new vehicle.
I actually, accidentally peeled out from a dead stop on the test drive, which has never happened before. I've got low end torque I didn't have before this, either. Happy Camper. Mostly...I do have to get under and re-do the gasket with a Fel Pro one in the morning. But, that's also 100% my fault as I know better. I guess I was hoping it wasn't junk. It's junk. There is an oil slick in my driveway and it's too dark to continue.

The only part that is a PIA is removing the tranny oil pan around the exhaust pipe. It crosses from the left to the right just in front of the pan almost over the front bolts on the oil pan.. You have to work it around a bit to remove and re install it. The actual install of the solenoids is a quick and simple plug and play.
