I used Valvoline 85w140 which has it already added, and the noise persisted. So I added a bottle of the Ford XL-3 gear oil and zero change. I am going to pull the cover off this weekend again I guess.
I wish the Permatex "right stuff" gasket maker wasnt so expensive, hate waiting 12+hrs for the regular RTV to cure (tried to fill it after 4-ish hrs once and had a slow leak for the next 30k miles)
Took the white one up to Big Bear for the weekend. You would think going up 6000ft in elevation it would cool off a decent amount but no. Still hot. The jeep got the hottest I have ever seen. Nothing to worry about but that's what staying in 3rd at almost 3000 rpm while climbing a mountain does.
Lol that was my reaction when i saw it waiting for me at the shop this morning.
Between other work, i cleaned, primed, painted, and bedlined it. Clocked out at 3, started cranking away. Somehow banged it all out by 5:45! Got the brackets on, mounted and adjusted the bumper, hung and wired up the winch, cleaned up my tools and closed up my side.
Every muscle in my body is on ****ing fire right now, lol.
But its done. Mostly, lol. Was gonna fab and weld a bracket to the bumper for the winch cutoff switch. Hell with that, it can wait. Zip tied that bugger to the grille.

We are heading down the mountain tomorrow to buy a room air conditioner, as it is just HOT up here right now.
EDIT:
I got the headliner done today, plus upholstering a few of the "upper" trim pieces. Also both fenders are back on the Jeep.

Out crawling in low range does the same thing out here all summer, 214 or more is normal. Just not enough air flow through the radiator at lower speeds. Back in the day we used to rig up a second windshield pump and reservoir to spray the radiator just a bit when it got to that "it's close" to overheating temp when climbing hills.
But the jetstream went way north of us and is sucking hot air from the south in again. Finally... that winter chill has left my bones. Honestly, it is way late and still cold for this time of year. lol
Touched up some of the inner door panels (C3 Mist Gray) as they were faded on top. Bought a couple cans of C3 Mist Gray from Genos Garage, since the dealer didnt have any. Some claim it sprays too light, or too dark. So i tested it on the backside of a scrap panel. It came out too light, and stayed that way. However, when sprayed in very very light bursts using a quick sweeping motion, it darkens almost instantly to the proper shade. I cant even tell where the paint was applied vs the original panel. It dries very well and has yet to rub thru or wear off, but have only been sprayed maybe 2 weeks ago. How well it holds up in the hot sun longterm, not a clue.
I still have not found any other sprays that match Mist Gray.
So I was wonderung has anyone elses Jeep just randomly lost a brake pad.
Yes... Just happened on my 1 ton dually... Bad bonding and and/or riveting (sometimes no rivets) from the maker of the pads. Brake pads and shoes are one of those very important parts to spend the extra to get better quality.

It's probably hotter out your way then here. I'm currently sitting at 8000ft. My house is at about 2000ft and definitely gets the heat.

You know, when I went out to Pismo beach a few months back, it did creep up about to the same temp while crawling through the dunes. I can only imagine the heat you guys are getting now. When its 2am out and still over 100, no thanks. I do not miss that.

Lol... I have to share that I have talked to people from all over the world. And the only place where it stays that hot at night and consistently gets to 130 during the day is in the middle east...
Sooo... Yes it is unique and it takes a "fried head" person to keep dealing with it and think it is "normal" like myself. lol
Ugh. I could use some troubleshooting help here. 97 XJ, stock - 140k. A couple of weeks ago, it started to develop a small pulsating/shake in the steering wheel while moving. At first, it would go away as the truck warmed up and if I did rapid "slaloms" back and forth. This made me think it was a power steering issue - air the system somehow. It felt like that too.
So, I just finished swapping in a new pump and new return hose, bleed the system and the pulsating is still there (did it just now, so this thread is relevant!). When I had the front end jacked up, I hand-turned the wheels and gave them a quick shake. I did hear some rotational resistance but thought nothing of it.
What do you folks think it could be? Now I'm thinking it's either the gearbox itself, the unit bearings, or the axle u-joints (which is what the internet seems to be saying). I already made the mistake of chucking parts at it - trying to minimize that here.

At 140K, I would check out the suspension. All TRE, and the dreaded ball joints.
When I did this to my 98 recently, my vibrations were cured. Bushings go bad over time, as the rubber isn't made to last forever. I can certainly empathize about throwing money into parts. It is technically a classic vehicle and you're going to have to replace some parts though.
